9th Annual Cognitive Symposium - 2012 Sponsored by the Allen Cognitive Network and Advisors San Diego, California November 1-3, 2012
What is the Cognitive Symposium?
The Cognitive Symposium, sponsored by the Allen Cognitive Network, is a time for practitioners, educators, researchers, and students to network and share their work. It is also a forum through which OTs and other healthcare professionals share best practices, evidence, and resources related to the development and use of the cognitive disabilities model. As an AOTA CE Approved Provider, participants also receive continuing education credits (Note: The assignment of AOTA CEUs does not imply endorsement of specific course content, products, or clinical procedures by AOTA.). We invite you to participate and to submit proposals.
Theme for Cognitive Symposium 2012:
"Practical Approaches to Promote Best Ability to Function"
Featured presentations, workshops, and posters will build on this theme. Additional topics focused on enhancing practice, research, and education related to the Allen Cognitive Disabilities Model are also welcome. Presentations may be by any relevant discipline (i.e. OT, PT, ST, Nursing, Administration, etc). In addition, presenters may be asked to lead a roundtable discussion with interested participants for continued dialogue with the presenter. Presenters of podium presentations and workshops will receive complimentary registration fees for the day of their presentation. Featured speakers and workshops of 4 or more hours will receive an honorarium.
What is the Submission Process? 1. Complete the Call for Papers Proposal Submission Form online using the website link which will be available mid-February. 2. Submit proposal online on or before midnight on Friday, April 27, 2012 to be considered. 3. Presenters must submit original work that does not infringe on the copyright or other proprietarily right of any other person or organization.
Formats: Proposals will be accepted for the following formats
• Podium/Panel Symposium Presentation - This includes a formal podium presentation, a panel discussion of up to 3 presenters, or an interactive presentation. These formal presentations will be made in front of all of the Symposium attendees or half of the attendees for split sessions. They are designed to present clinical programs or approaches which are being used in practice or research outcomes related to the provision of therapy to those with cognitive disabilities. (1 or 2 contact hours).
• Workshops - Workshops may be one day (6½ contact hours) or a partial day (3 or 4 contact hours). They are designed to help participants develop and refine specific clinical, teaching, and research skills. They should include a strong experiential component to allow group interaction and hands-on learning.
• Poster/Table Top Presentation -These presentations are intended to provide an opportunity for individuals to share innovative clinical applications of cognitive theories, relevant literature reviews, current research outcomes, plans for future research, or to share other pertinent information. Individuals whose poster/tabletop presentations are accepted need to be available during designated times in the symposium schedule to present and discuss their presentation with participants.
Review and Rating: Each presentation abstract and proposal will be rated by at least two blind reviewers based on • Originality • Relevance to clinical practice • Relevance to the symposium's theme • Currency of topic and references • Overall completeness, clarity, and organization
Proposals with the highest ratings will be reviewed by the symposium program committee to create a balanced and coherent program. You may receive feedback from the reviewers who rated your proposal or the symposium committee.
Acceptance: Notification of Acceptance of proposals will be emailed by June 30, 2012.
Use of Proposal Information: All submitted proposals are the property of the Allen Cognitive Network. If your proposal is accepted, some of the information in the cover sheets and presentation abstract may be used in the program booklet for participants, for presentation handouts, on the ACN website, and in marketing of the Cognitive Symposium 2012. By submitting a proposal, the author(s) authorize these uses of the proposal information.
