Navigating Leadership: Envisioning a Post-Pandemic Future to Support Recovery & Participation

Length: 90 minutes

Format: Keynote Address

Presenter with credentials: Tina Champagne, OT, OTD, OTR, FAOTA

Education Level: Beginner

Abstract:

Globally, we have experienced an unprecedented time of great loss and uncertainty. Leaders in the field must have an understanding of the potential needs of those they work with in order to support healing, resiliency and a re-emergence.  Understanding the impact of traumatic stress acts as a catalyst for identifying opportunities that foster resiliency and participation across persons, organizations and populations. The Allen Cognitive Disabilities Model can be used to help recognize progress and guide the recovery process as we envision a post-pandemic future.

Objectives:

  1. Identify different types of traumatic stress and the potential impact on persons, organizations, and communities.
  2. Recognize trauma-informed and trauma-sensitive approaches to support healing and resiliency.
  3. Identify ways that the Allen Cognitive Disabilities Model can be used to help guide the recovery process.

Abstract:

Given that we are experiencing an unprecedented time of great loss and uncertainty globally, leaders in the field must have an understanding of the potential needs of those with whom they work in order to support healing, resiliency and recovery.  This panel discussion will explore the impact of the pandemic on individual practitioners working in diverse settings, with different populations, and varying needs to act as a catalyst for identifying opportunities that foster resiliency and participation across persons, organizations and populations. In this lens, the manner in which panelists have used the Allen Cognitive Disabilities Model to help recognize progress and guide the recovery process in their patient populations and practices will be addressed.

Objectives:

  1. Identify a variety of OTPs' personal perspectives on different types of traumatic stress they have observed at work and/or experienced personally since the onset of the pandemic.
  2. Describe the impact of traumatic stress on persons, organizations, and communities and specifically on people of color in a variety of practice settings, including skilled nursing facilities, acute care and rehabilitation hospitals, and inpatient and community-based mental health.
  3. Identify forms of trauma-informed and trauma-sensitive approaches used to support healing and resilience in a variety of practice settings.
  4. Describe methods that OTPs use to implement the Allen Cognitive Disabilities Model to guide the recovery process in practice settings.
